Apple Music has been a massive hit in India with its first-ever album sale of more than 2.5 million in India alone, with the album selling for nearly $10,000 in its first week.
Apple’s India launch marks a significant step forward for the music streaming platform in India and a sign of the success of its strategy in the country.
Apple is targeting to bring more than 5 million music subscriptions in India in the first half of next year, according to an Apple India spokesperson.
The company launched the service in India on November 14, the day after Apple launched the iTunes App Store in India.
It has since grown to be the third-most-used music app in the world behind Spotify and Rdio, according a recent report by App Annie.
Apple in India has launched its iTunes store in Delhi and Mumbai as well as in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
The Indian Appstore has more than 4.3 million active users.
